The Benefits of a Kitchen Larder
Back in our grandmothers’ day, most households had a pantry, where all the foodstuffs were kept. With the advent of fridge freezers, fresh produce had a new home and pantries, or larders as they were also known, went out of fashion.
These days, larders, otherwise known as kitchen pantry cupboards are very much back on trend. A larder cupboard for the kitchen is so much more fit for purpose, i.e. for storing food, than numerous kitchen cupboards are. They keep all the food in one place, so it’s easier to find a specific item and plan the weekly shop better. Furniture 4 Your Home has a wide choice of larder cupboards to choose from and if you want your larder cupboard to fit a particular space, we can create a bespoke cupboard for you. The same goes for the interior, so if you’re the type of person who likes to cook with spices, we can add extra spice racks or you might want extra drawers or wine racks. The larder cupboard can be geared to your particular storage needs and by utilising every little nook and cranny, it’s much more economical with space than a traditional kitchen cupboard.
The Sunbury Larder Unit below is an example of one of our standard larder cupboards, featuring all of the commonly preferred internal options such as drawers, shelves and spice racks. Its contemporary grey finish complements any décor.

Every kitchen is different and storage preferences vary widely, so many of our customers prefer a bespoke storage solution. If this sounds like you and you are unsure of what is available and what might be best for your particular room, we’re always happy to offer help and advice with planning – just pick up the phone and call us on 01992 35 35 50. All of our larder units are sturdy and built to last so it’s important to ensure that you plan a larder unit that is going to be the perfect solution for your storage needs for years to come.

Dark kitchen cupboards, such as the one shown below, are a hot trend for 2020 but this Mackintosh style 8 door larder, along with many of our other kitchen larder cupboards, can be painted in any number of colours using paint from luxury paint manufacturer Farrow and Ball. In this example, the spice racks have been hand waxed for contrast. There’s also a choice of finish for the handles.

For a more rustic look, natural wood, which has long been out of fashion for kitchens, is staging a comeback for 2020. Crafted from quality American white oak, the Salisbury solid oak 2 door 4 basket larder cupboard is the perfect addition to a farmhouse-style kitchen.
