6 Top Furniture Trends for 2022
What’s Next For Interior Design?
The emphasis on sustainable materials continues into 2022 as awareness of environmental issues grows and causes concern. The pandemic has also had a major influence on how we design our homes, with the work-from-home trend continuing. Consequently, many of us are making greater use of whatever outdoor space we have and if we have no outdoor space, we’re bringing the outdoors in, in the form of pot plants and cut flowers.
Combined Spaces
Having separate kitchens, dining rooms and living rooms is no longer popular, with designers trying to maximise previously ‘dead’ space by combining these areas. Living under lockdown has meant that our homes are no longer just for living in; their functionality has been extended to include work, recreation and the gym. Most of this additional functionality has fallen on the living area so partitioning with various materials is popular but it can also be achieved via thoughtful arrangement of furniture.

70’s Retro Style
Our appetite for all things retro continues into 2022 with mid-century modern furniture styling holding the same appeal as it has for some years now. Flowing lines, roundness and bright shades of blue, pink and green characterise this style. The 2022 versions will be adapted to embrace Scandinavian, Art Deco and minimalist décor.

Emphasis on Sustainability
Furniture built to last a lifetime and crafted from sustainable materials such as from managed forests is taking precedence over trendy fads. At Furniture4YourHome we particularly love Tulipwood, which is one of the most sustainable timber species with net volume increase being higher than harvested wood each year in the USA.

Multi-Functional Spaces
With lockdowns lasting far longer than most of us envisaged, homes have in many cases been adapted to double up as work spaces. A dining table can serve as a work station for several family members at the same time; a sideboard can be used for storing paperwork and a bookcase can provide a pleasant backdrop for video conference calls.

Marble Surfaces
Marble has always characterised a luxurious setting but it fits harmoniously into any environment. It has long been used in kitchen design but it is now very much making an appearance in other settings such as dining and living areas. It can add character and texture and is versatile, looking equally stunning woven into classic or modern décors.

Inspiration From Nature
This links in with the sustainability theme, with designs, textures and materials reflecting the desire to embrace all things organic and natural. Pot plants and vases of flowers are added in order to help to ‘bring the outdoors in’. Natural materials can offer a sense of wellbeing in so far as you know that you’re not bringing toxic materials into your home. If it’s a natural material, you know it is safe.
